Just about 2 months ago facebook had announced a team would work on the “metaverse” and today in a live session Mark Zuckerberg announced the changing of the company name to META.
“Today we are seen as a social media company, but in our DNA we are a company that builds technology to connect people, and the metaverse is the next frontier just like social networking was when we got started,” Zuckerberg said.
During the live session Zuckerberg gave a demonstration of the companies plans for Metaverse. Though rudimentary, Zuckerberg predicted the elements could be part of mainstream in 5-10years.
“We believe the meta verse will be the successor to the mobile internet,” Zuckerberg said.
The company also announced a new virtual reality headset named Project Cambria. The device will be a high-end product available at the “higher-end of the price spectrum” that will be released next year, Zuckerberg said.
Though it would seem the changes and updates coming up now are due to major backlash the company is facing due to the recent whistleblower incident. Lets wait and watch where this pans out.
